Adaptive EMS Scenario Engine
Graduate Capstone Project

The Problem

The Alexandria Fire Department uses scenario-based training as part of their Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training to prepare new personnel for responding to medical emergencies. Currently, these scenarios are largely instructor-driven and don’t accurately replicate real-world scenarios. During simulations, trainees perform medical interventions on a dummy known as SimMan, which acts as the patient, while instructors read the scenario description and continuously intervene to state the patient status.

Trainees experience reduced realism in current training simulations, leaving them inadequately prepared for high-risk, real-world medical emergencies.
